The Great Debate
The First Amendment vs. Sexual Orientation Regulations:
Which Should Prevail?
Representing the First Amendment
Dr. Scott Lively, Attorney and Pastor from Springfield Massachusetts
Dr. Lively is an internationally known opponent of the homosexual political movement around
the world whose views are currently the subject of a federal lawsuit by homosexual activists
in Uganda who accuse him of “Crimes Against Humanity” for preaching against homosexuality
in that country. He is also the author, along with Orthodox Jewish researcher, Kevin E. Abrams,
of The Pink Swastika: Homosexuality in the Nazi Party. As an attorney, Dr. Lively argued
Good News Employee Association vs. City of Oakland, CA, a free speech case, before a
three judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, held in special session at Stanford
University, in which Sexual Orientation Regulations (SORs) were ruled to trump the First Amendment.
In recent months he has been working to promote an amendment to existing SORs called the
First Amendment Supremacy Clause which seeks to strengthen legal protections
for freedom of speech and freedom of religion when they conflict with “gay rights.”
Representing Sexual Orientation Regulations (SORs):
(Yet to be confirmed)
An invitation to debate
has been issued to the following 8 activists:
[all are promoters of Sexual Orientation Regulations (SORs) in our community]:
Vic McCarty: Talk Show Host at WMKT 1270 am – “THE TALK STATION"
who has had over 100 guests on his show in the
last 2 years speaking out in support of SORs;
Jim Carruthers (Self-identified "gay" City Commissioner who successfully initiated
the vote that added SORs to our city government);
M’Lynn Hartwell (Self-identified lesbian and TCEquality webmaster who strongly
supported adopting SORs in our city government and in our TCAPS schools);
Ben Gohs (Boyne City Gazette Editor and weekly guest on the Vic McCarty Show
and outspoken proponent of SORs);
Greg Baird (Self-identified "gay" man and National Lecturer on LGBT issues
at colleges and universities; monthly guest on The Vic McCarty Show;
and a strong supporter of SORs);
Theresa Gardener [Current Human Rights Commission (HRC) Chairperson;
Four years ago the HRC advised the City of Traverse City to adopt SORs.]
Dr. David Pilgrim (Vice-President for Diversity & Inclusion at Ferris State University
who gave the talk -- "THEM: Images of Separation" -- to a group of
Traverse City educators in February where he showed his support for SORs.)
Jay Kaplan (Self-identified "gay" man and LGBT Project staff attorney for the ACLU of MI.
Jay was a panelist at the 2009 Traverse City "'Gay' and Lesbian Forum"
where the plan to pass SORs for Traverse City was introduced.)
All 8 activists were also encouraged to invite any other debaters of their choice to
show the superiority of their Pro-SOR world view by debating Dr. Lively.
Given his expertise on the issue, Dr. Lively is willing to debate up to three
opponents simultaneously at this event – or he will debate the empty chairs
(Clint Eastwood style) if no pro-SOR debaters step forward).
